Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended his dog as he detailed what life is really like in the top job.
Mr Albanese appeared on Perth radio on Thursday morning, where he was asked about how easy it was for him to do “normal” tasks like going to the supermarket.
He recounted a story from early on in his tenure when he needed to get dog food for his dog Toto.
“There was one day in Canberra very early on when I’m going through the Canberra Centre – the big shopping centre,” he told Nova.
“And Tota has a particularly brand of dog food, it’s the only one she will eat – yes, she’s a princess.
“So I’m walking through with these two cartons of dog food one tucked under each arm, it is because of inconvenience now (I buy two at once).
The host interrupted, laughing as he called out the Prime Minister for buying so much food for “the tiniest dog known to man”.
Mr Albanese hit back, telling him not to attack his dog.
“Say what you like about me but leave Toto out of this,” he said while laughing before continuing on with his story.
“So people were stopping me and talking to me as I was trying to get out of there. I’m waiting for the selfies – I’m sure there are selfies of me out there doing a selfie with this dog food tucked under my arm and a big bag of biscuits.”
Mr Albanese also told listeners about the “great privilege” of being able to hang some of Australia’s finest artwork in his Canberra residence.
He added he was looking forward to hosting world leaders at the Lodge later this year.
During his interview, he also said people could “read into it how they will” that the missing radioactive capsule had been found while he was visiting the state.
