Australians looking for work and love are being encouraged to head to regional Australia where both are ripe for the picking.
That’s according to Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack’s latest pitch as growers call for help to fill thousands of jobs left vacant due to coronavirus.
“Bring your mobile, have that Instagram moment up a ladder, picking fruit, blue sky in the background,” Mr McCormack said.
“You’ll find more friends, you might find the love of your life out in regional Australia.
“It could change the way you live.”
Mr McCormack said there were adventures to be had and money to be made.
“We are going to need every hand on deck to get the fruits of the farmers’ labour,” he said.
“We are going to have a bumper harvest, whether its grain, whether its fruit, the horticulture industry is going to need many Australians.
“There are incentives there for Australians to take up that challenge.”
The Federal Government is set to include several measures to lure workers to the regions in the October 6 budget.
Visa extensions are also on the cards for seasonal workers, backpackers and Pacific Island workers who take up the challenge.
States have previously struggled to attract overseas workers to regional areas despite schemes aimed at filling work shortages in the bush.
