A young woman has revealed how much she earns as a body corporate manager, and Aussies are divided over her six-figure salary.
The blonde woman was stopped in Brisbane’s CBD by a man who works for GetAhead, the app that works like Tinder but for jobs, where you match with employers instead of potential dates.
When she was stopped and asked what she did for a living, she explained that she was a body corporate manager and that she made $125,000.
A body corporate manager can manage either commercial or private properties. The job is to ensure that the building is managed and stays compliant and they oversee the daily operations.
“I started in property management and real estate about 15 years ago when I was 14,” she explained.
“I moved into body corporate because there’s more money and financial growth but I specialise in the accounting side budgeting and forecasting.”
The young manager said she is in charge of 48 buildings and over 2,000 active lots. She advised young people to try “everything” and said they are never stuck in a role; there’s always room to pivot.
“If you find one side of your job that you’re better at that particular job try something else that is that is more targeted in that field,” she said.
According to Talent, the average salary for a body corporate manager in Australia is $85,000, but experienced workers can earn up to $120,000, and entry-level workers usually get $75,000.
The response to the woman’s salary admission was divided.
“No wonder my body corporate are so high it’s all going in wages,” one person wrote.
“$900 a quarter to wages and a tidy up once a month. I wonder why no one’s keen to buy apartments,” another said.
“She is great at her job,” someone else praised.
“Wow that’s a lot of buildings and active lots you manage, go you,” another complimented.
“Body corporate fees were the biggest waste of money,” one whinged.
“Even if she does have a diploma or degree that’s a ridiculous amount of money for a body corporate manager,” one said.
Someone replied, though, and argued that she’d clearly be working “very hard with a property portfolio that size”.
According to financial comparison website Finder’s Consumer Sentiment Tracker, 50 per cent of Aussies earn between $10,000 and $49,999, and 32 per cent earn between $50,000 and $99,999.
Almost one in five earns above $100,000, and the cost of living has had a detrimental impact on people’s ability to save and 48 per cent say they could only survive up to a month living off their savings if their income dried up tomorrow.
