An Aussie worker bringing in a six-figure salary has revealed the “double edged sword” of the industry he works in, despite it booming in recent years.
After being stopped on the streets of Brisbane for an interview with jobs app, Getahead, the man revealed he earns between $80,000 and $150,000 a year working in security systems installation.
“Crime unfortunately really helps my industry and helps my business grow,” he revealed.
However, he added that, through his work, he also gets to help “make people feel safe and secure”.
“It is a double edged sword. You’re able to help out the community doing what you do and, unfortunately, crime is never going to go away,” he said.

Last year, Queensland was crowed the “crime capital of Australia” after 2023 Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data revealed it recorded the most victims of crime of any state or territory.
More than 289,500 Queensland residents became victims of crime that year, a 13 per cent increase compare to 2022.
According to the data, there were 58,479 recorded assaults, 49,490 break-ins an at least 18,210 car thefts.
However, the most recent statistics from the Queensland Police show a reduction in the rate of youth offences, dropping by 6.7 per cent from the 2022/23 reporting period to the 2023/24 reporting period.
The Brisbane security systems installer revealed his work can occur in many different areas.
“You can be wherever security needs to be, so indoors, outdoors, underground, in the sky,” he said.
Asked to give advice to young Aussies who are trying to decide what career path to take, the worker simply suggest they “get out there and live”.
“Get out there and get off your arse, go and experience, go and have some fun, go and travel. Travel is the best thing that got me confident, got me wanting to go places in life,” he said.
