A young person has been branded “lazy” and “entitled” after claiming she “physically” doesn’t think she can work a regular 9 to 5 job.

Gen Zer claims she 'physically' can't work 9-5

A young musician has gone viral after claiming she “physically” can’t work a regular 9 to 5 job, claiming doing “non-creative” tasks makes her “cry”.

Zoe Wynns made a video in October, begging her followers to stream her music so she doesn’t have to end up with a regular job, which she says would see her “certainly die”.

“I cannot do a 9-5. I know this is going to sound spoiled,” she said in the video.

“I know this is going to sound like some artsy creative who doesn’t want to put in the hard work and hours, but I don’t think I can physically do it.”

The 20-year-old reveals she “starts to cry” if she has to do more than three non-creative tasks in a day, adding that she couldn’t imagine doing eight hours a day of something that she “doesn’t really love” for the rest of her life.

“So there’s no other option. This has to work,” she said, referring to her music career.

“This going to sound even more artsy and arrogant, but I heard this quote in a show once and it said: ‘People like us can’t live normal lives, if we try it kills us’.

“And honestly, I am throwing myself into that category because I think I will certainly die.”

Ms Wynns then pleaded for her followers to listen to her music and help her with “one step in the process of me not literally dying”.

“Please stream it. I love you guys,” she added.

Her video has earned a mixed reaction online. While there were other Gen Zers who related to the clip, there were also a lot of commenters who branded her views “entitled” and “lazy”.

One commenter claimed Ms Wynns was “absolutely right”, saying that a 9-5 jobs for artists was “complete torture to our souls” and that “normal people will never understand”.

“It’s not spoiled in least bit. Our purpose extends beyond the mundane cycle of work, eat, sleep, and repeat; we are here to create and explore,” another said.

“While financial stability matters, transforming one’s passion into income adds an extra layer of fulfilment.”

One commenter revealed they were “going all in on theatre” because they couldn’t keep working a 9-5 office job that is “killing their spirit”.

However, many other commenters were less sympathetic to the 20-year-old’s plea, with one noting that artists “work their asses off” and she was in for a “rude awakening”.

“This can’t be real,” one said, while another advised the musician that she should “probably grow up”.

Others branded the video “pathetic” and “embarrassing” and “lazy”, with one claiming: “You will never make it in the real world lol”.

“Ya that’s the point of this video,” Ms Wynns responded.

The young musician decided to address the backlash in the comment section of the post, writing that she wanted to clarify a few things.

She revealed that she is currently in college and within less than two years she will either have to “make it in the creative industry or get a job upon graduation”.

“I wouldn’t have even made this post if I wasn’t faced with the impending terror of this lifestyle,” she said.

The 20-year-old also noted that she had been working “basically every second” on various side hustles and career paths.

What scares her about a 9 to 5 job, she revealed, was not the eight hours of work but the monotony of “not getting to chose what I want to create”.

“Love you, everyone who’s engaged in an actual discussion or commented something kind!” she said.

“Let’s break out of the system!”
