Leading charity St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland has appointed a builder as its first 500 Homes in 5 years project moves forward, ushering in a new era of social and affordable housing
Vinnies Queensland has appointed GFG Projects - a wholly owned subsidiary of FKG Group- for its Nerang project on the Gold Coast
It is the first development in partnership with the Queensland Government and the society’s subsidiary community housing provider, Vinnies Housing, and is part of the charity’s ambitious 500 Homes in 5 Years project. Construction is set to begin by mid-2025.
It marks the largest housing project in the 130-year history of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland.
The first development has been designed by Plus Architecture and will feature 60 one and two-bedroom apartments, providing a mix of social and affordable housing for those in need.
The Nerang project is designed to be cost-effective yet high-quality, offering a
dignified living space while blending seamlessly into the surrounding community.
With additional projects in Bundaberg and Toowoomba expected to start construction later this year and more developments in the pipeline, Vinnies Queensland is set to exceed its initial 500-home goal, with 562 homes now planned as part of this long-term program of work.
Funding for these homes comes from a combination of Queensland Government support and Vinnies Queensland’s financial contribution, including funding from community-driven efforts such as the annual Vinnies QLD CEO Sleepout which raises approximately $2m every year in Queensland.
