Melbourne caravan maker Highline Caravans has gone bust.
Highline, which designed and made custom caravans from a base in Campbellfield, called in liquidators on Tuesday.
Victoria is the nation’s caravan-manufacturing capital and Highline’s downfall follows a boom in pandemic caravanning travel.
Insolvency expert Altan Djenab, from Wild Apricot corporate insolvency and advisory services, has been appointed liquidator.
Mr Djenab said it was very early days but the business may have collapsed owing between $700,000 and $1m.
“It seems it’s down to a lack of orders but I’ve really got to get in and see what has happened,” Mr Djenab told the Herald Sun.
An early creditors report lists about 50 businesses which are owed money.
These include Campbellfield cabinet maker B Beach Doors and Cabinets, aluminium supplier Allytech Australia, caravan suppliers AZQwood and Samaria Australia, third-party insurance claims administrator Gallagher Bassett and government agencies the Australian Taxation Office and Victoria’s State Revenue Office.
Highline’s website says the company was launched in 2013 and its founders have “years of experience in the caravan manufacturing industry”.
The company’s range spanned 13 different models, including an all electric van.
“Our team of highly experienced staff are dedicated to delivering high-quality caravans that are built to last,” the website says.
“We take pride in our craftsmanship and attention to detail, ensuring that every caravan that leaves our factory is of the highest quality. Whether you’re looking for a luxury caravan or a custom caravan, we have the expertise and experience to create the perfect caravan for your needs.”
