Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, 5 August, 2021. The ASX 200 has closed at a record with a raft of stocks including health insurer NIB setting new highs. Oil prices fell again. Nick Scali gains as profit beats guidance.

US markets mostly slipped amid concerns the recovery could be faltering. The S&P 500 ticked down 0.5 per cent, the Dow  retreated 0.9 per cent and the Nasdaq closed up 0.1 per cent. European markets closed higher.
