Terry McCrann: Why we need the Morrison who ’stopped the boats’
BOTH the Government and the country can well live with Scott Morrison as prime minister. But with one big proviso, writes Terry McCrann.

SCOTT Morrison and Josh Frydenberg kicked off not just well but impressively at their press conference. They now have to deliver.
First step is the Cabinet. It must include both Peter Dutton and Tony Abbott, not just to unite the party — the 40 who voted for Dutton with the 45 who voted for Morrison — but to include the most effective retail political leader we have seen in Australia since John Howard.

The next — the big — step is obviously the policies.
We need to see the Morrison of 2010 through 2015.
That’s the Morrison who “stopped the boats” under his then-leader Tony Abbott.
And the Morrison who faced down the left-media tsunami against its supposed inhumanity.
It’s ironic and instructive that it was the guy he defeated today who took over from him in that job and continued its success — and who, Morrison noted, he’d recommended.
Morrison might have been the “Turnbull candidate”, but he’s not really from the Turnbull soft (to harder?) left.
He clearly, though, can best blend the moderates into the broader mix in a way that Dutton probably could not have.
The big step is to ditch the disastrous NEG (National Energy Guarantee).
It would permanently cripple our tottering electricity system.
The even bigger step is to promise to ditch the Paris Climate Accord farce and abandon all of the multi-billion dollar a year subsidies to so-called renewables.
He also must move immediately to reduce our too-high immigration, which is strangling Melbourne and Sydney, forcing up property prices and bearing down on wages.
Morrison and Frydenberg — and Abbott — are the team to sell this.
