The owner of an airconditioning company giving away free AR-15s with purchase has claimed sales have spiked since promoting the controversial ad. Arctic airconditioning owner Tyler Wigner revealed to The U.S. Sun that his company has generated over A$150,000 since he promoted the ad less than a week ago.

Wigner, whose AC company is based out of Loris, South Carolina, northwest of Myrtle Beach, told The U.S. Sun that his business needed new customers, so he decided to post the most controversial firearm in America.

“I chose an AR-15 because by posting a free duct cleaning would not get the same attention as it would by posting the most controversial fire arm [sic] in America,” Wigner said in an email to The U.S. Sun.

“You don’t get publicity by what people like. You get publicity by stirring the pot.”

Wigner said his company needed to bring in more customers, so he took a page from Roof EZ President Jason Polly, whose Florida-based roofing company is offering customers a holiday deal through November – purchase a roof and get a free turkey and AR-15.

“Absolutely,” Wigner said when asked by The U.S. Sun if his ad was inspired by Polly’s Roof EZ deal.

“It’s a great way to get out their [sic] and be seen,” he added.

“If mine was a holiday promotion I would have done a turkey too. But I intend to continue the program further at random through the years.”

Wigner claimed that since promoting the controversial ad, his business has generated over (A$150,000) in less than a week since the posting.

“Our company needed publicity to bring more customers. Not to mention instead of paying for advertising, the people do it for me by sharing the post with positive and negative comments,” he said.

“Either way the post still gets shared. This brought us over (A$168,000) in estimates in less than a week.

“Before we were lucky to get (A$31,400) in a month.”

First sale

Arctic airconditioning revealed on its Facebook page that the company had its first sale, involving the free AR-15, on Wednesday.

“First AR-15 system sale today !” Wignor’s company shared as he shouted out a local gun store for providing the firearm.

“People that like guns, they’re sharing the post, saying ‘heck yeah, this is great,” Wigner told local CBS affiliate WBTW.

“And I’m also getting people that don’t like guns to say, ‘this is a terrible idea,’ but they’re still sharing the post.

“So, at that point, it’s like the perfect storm. I’m getting maximum advertising.”

Wigner clarified that the purchaser must be a Horry County resident and that the gun shop will conduct background checks and follow state and federal regulations.

Anyone who can’t legally possess a gun, such as felons, will get (A$780) off their HVAC purchase.

It’s not the first time a company has offered out AR-15 to customers for a purchase.

In 2017, Zach Blenkinsopp, owner of the Alabama-based roofing company Digital Roofing Innovations, put out a Fourth of July ad to “Make America guns again.”

At the time, Digital Roofing Innovations offered customers a voucher that could be redeemed for an AR-15, a pistol, a hunting rifle, or a (A$780) gift card at a shooting range in Florence, Alabama, with the purchase of a roof.

“Get A Roof Get A Gun!” the ad posted on the company’s Facebook page read.

“Is this even legal? North Alabama’s #1 roofing company is offering you an AR-15 with every roof that we install.”

In the ad, a shirtless Blenkisopp, wearing cowboy boots, shorts and a hat with American flag graphics, appeared in a video, saying: “Donald Trump says make America great again, I say make America gun again. MAGA!”

The AR-15 assault rifle has been the weapon of choice for mass shooters across the US, dating back to 2007. The first assault rifle to be used in a mass shooting came in 2007 at a post-homecoming party inside a duplex in Crandon, Wisconsin, when suspect Tyler Peterson, 20, killed six people and critically injured a seventh.
