‘Life-changing’ $430 million jackpot up for grabs

While one clueless Sydneysider has unwittingly become a millionaire 100 times over, the rest of us have a shot at an even bigger jackpot.

While one mystery Australian may be walking around unaware they’ve come into $100 million after last week’s Powerball, Aussies have an even better chance at more than four times that this week.

The $431 million US jackpot has opened up to Aussies via local company The Lottery Office.

Australians are able to enter the USA Mega Lotto, which is available through The Lottery Office and matches winnings from the US run Mega Millions.

The Lottery Office chief executive Jaclyn Wood said changes to the “premium lottery”, which came into effect in April, meant Aussies now had an even better chance at winning, with higher payourt and more frequent “mega-jackpots” now accessible.

“We anticipate with the new structure of the USA Mega Lotto, that Aussies will get the chance to play for $A1 billion every few months,” Ms Wood said.

“Winning a jackpot of this size would be truly life changing and I’m crossing my fingers that an Aussie is one of the first to win under the new format.”

The eye-watering jackpot comes just days after the equal third-biggest ever lottery draw won by an individual winner.

Last Thursday, a single ticket sold at a Bondi Junction newsagent was the sole division one winner in the $100 million Powerball draw.

However, the ticketholder is yet to come forward to claim their prize.

A spokesperson for The Lott said one NSW punter was “walking around completely oblivious” to the life-changing news.

Anyone who missed out on the $100 million (or even the lucky, clueless winner) can have another crack the USA Mega Lotto’s $431 million jackpot with tickets available until 10am Wednesday.
