Woolworths introduces nurses for Melbourne staff in hot-spot supermarkets

Woolworths has announced a range of new precautionary measures for its stores as the Victorian virus crisis continues.

Nurses will be on hand for Woolworths staff at its supermarkets in Victorian coronavirus hot spots as well as its distribution and fulfilment centres.

The company announced the new precautionary measures on Friday afternoon for its dozens of hot-spot stores and distribution centres and customer online fulfilment centre.

Only Woolworths staff members will have access to the nurses and not customers.

Compulsory temperature checks are also taking place for all team members at those sites.

Dozens of new delivery trucks have joined Woolworths’ Victorian fleet to cater for those in Melbourne hot spots who do not want to visit a store, while hundreds of couriers from on-demand delivery partners Sherpa and Drive Yello will also be used to fulfil orders.

Woolworths has also followed its competitor Coles’ lead and reinstated additional two-item purchase limits on 18 products including frozen vegetables, bread, chilled fresh milk, prepacked sausages, burger patties and tissues.

Woolworths Supermarket managing director Claire Peters said the extra precautionary measures would make sure everyone could stay safe.

“We want to reassure everyone in Victoria that our distribution centres, customer online fulfilment centre and our supermarkets remain open and will continue to operate as essential services for the customers and communities that depend on them,” she said.

Woolworths has also extended the duration of its vulnerable team member leave entitlements until July 29. These include staff aged 70 and above and ensure they only return to work when it is safe to do so.
