Tesco shoppers baffled at fridges filled with endless boxes of Corona beer in creepy ‘omen’

UK shoppers in lockdown are bemused as they say, “We got no toilet paper, no Dettol and we got no hand wash but we do got a lot of Corona.”

England lockdown could extend beyond set end date

Grocery shoppers in the UK have been left baffled by supermarket shelves piled with endless boxes of Corona beer.

Photos showed dozens of crates of the Mexican beer stacked high in fridges at a Tesco store in New Malden, South London.

One called the rows of Corona lager an eerie Halloween “omen” as the country battles the pandemic.

A Tesco spokesman said the beer had been stacked in the aisle “temporarily” and had now been moved.

Brits took to social media to share pictures of the aisles packed with 12-pack boxes of Corona.

One shared a photo from the store on October 31, tweeting: “Loving this Halloween #Omen at Tesco New Malden!”

Another wrote: “Corona is very prevalent in my local Tesco.”

And a third posted: “We got no toilet paper, no Dettol and we got no hand wash but we do got a lot of Corona.”

Panic buyers stripped supermarket shelves bare as shoppers stocked up ahead of a four-week lockdown.

People loaded up trolleys and queues snaked outside stores as the country faces another shutdown from Thursday.

Shelves were also stripped bare in Morrisons in St Helen’s, Merseyside as shoppers hoarded toilet roll in scenes reminiscent of the country’s first lockdown in March.

Photos of a Sainsbury’s store in Weston-super-mare, Somerset also show the toilet roll aisle completely bare.

Back in March, sales of wine, beer and spirits soared by almost a third as Brits boozed their way through lockdown.

“They have now been put back in their rightful place.”

Corona is the world’s most valuable beer brand and is worth an estimated £6.28 billion ($8.1 billion).
