ASX 200 closes up 0.9%; AMP gains on stake sale; Orocobre strong

The ASX 200 closed 0.9 per cent higher on AMP's strong gains and solid performances from miners.  It was the market's  best session in four and a half weeks.

Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Wednesday, November 3. Stocks closed 0.9 per cent stronger with AMP among top gainers on a divestment update. 

ASX 200 closed up 0.9 per cent at 7392.7.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.4 per cent and the S&P 500 was up 0.4 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite added 0.3 per cent. All three indexes are trading at fresh record highs.

Iron ore fell 6.6 per cent to $US96.45 per tonne.

The US Nymex crude (WTI) price lost 0.2 per cent to $US83.91 a barrel. Base metal prices fell by between 0.5-2.2 per cent with lead down the least and copper down the most.
