ASX 200 ends higher for third day in a row, WiseTech gains

ASX 200 closes up for the third day in a row on further gains in global risk assets. WiseTech shares soar, Afterpay down. Kerry Stokes to retire.

Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Wednesday, August 25. The ASX 200 opened 0.5% higher and managed to hold most of the day's gains to close up for the third consecutive day. Wall Street set new records, iron ore soared and oil prices extended their rally.

The S&P 500 gained 0.15 per cent for its 50th record close of 2021, while the Dow added 0.1 per cent and the Nasdaq advanced 0.5 per cent to close above 15,000 for the first time. European markets ended mixed. Locally, companies reporting results include Afterpay, Nine, Medibank Private, WiseTech and Seven Group.
