Pretty Paynesville is hoping to win hearts this Valentine’s Day weekend with deals you’ll love

Spoil your partner by booking a weekend of love at the picturesque Paynesville in East Gippsland, and you’ll also be supporting communities recovering from bushfires.

Paynesville - Short stay goes a long way

Yet to make Valentine’s Day plans? Consider booking a weekend away in pretty Paynesville, and “sharing the love”.

The coastal village in the heart of the Gippsland Lakes is encouraging Victorians to plan a romantic, long weekend away — from this Friday — with a range of special deals designed for lovebirds.

Hayley Hardy of East Gippsland Marketing said Paynesville’s “share the love” Valentine’s campaign was designed to boost visitor numbers in the wake of the recent bushfires.

Just a short drive from bustling Bairnsdale and a ferry ride from sleepy Raymond Island, Paynesville was the perfect destination for a long, loved-up weekend, Ms Hardy said.

“People have seen the images and they’ve watched on feeling helpless. But by booking accommodation, dinner, cruises and tours in East Gippsland over the Valentine’s Day weekend, you can help fire-affected communities recover economically and ensure that 100 per cent of your money is going directly to the businesses that need your help,” she said.

Tamara Cook, owner of Paynesville’s Captains Cove Resort, is among those participating in the Valentine’s promotion.

Anyone who booked three nights at Captains Cove before February 17 would receive a complimentary $50 voucher at the Sardine Eatery and Bar, or at Pier 70 on the Esplanade, she said.

“We’re really excited to take part in this initiative and offer something special to our guests who make the effort to come and visit the region and share the love,” Ms Cook said.

“Everyone here has felt the impact of these fires either directly or indirectly, and obviously some are hurting more than others, but our cafes, restaurants, hotels and our tourist operators have all been affected by the fact that visitors have largely stayed away while the bushfires impacted the region over our peak tourism period. The one thing people can do is come and visit.”

Ms Hardy said the Paynesville Music Festival, from February 21-23, and Paynesville Classic Boat Rally, from February 28 to March 1, were also great reasons for a visit to the town.

Part of East Gippsland’s Festival of Festivals, the events provided the perfect opportunity for Victorians to discover all the culinary delights and foodie hot spots in the Paynesville and Bairnsdale region, while enjoying great music, stunning scenery and a lively festival atmosphere, she said.
