A woman has died after being hit by a garbage truck in regional Victoria.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Nikki Ladgrove said police were appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision in Ballarat on Saturday morning.
“It’s believed the female pedestrian was struck by a white garbage truck while crossing Doveton Street, at the intersection of Eyre Street, about 8.35am,” she said.
“The pedestrian, a 61-year-old Wendouree woman, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital where she later passed away.”
Ms Ladgrove said the driver of the truck, a 45-year-old man from Golden Point, stopped to help and was taken to hospital for observation.
“Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward,” she said.
“They would especially like to speak to a male witness who was travelling eastbound on Eyre Street in a gold or grey Toyota Camry when the incident occurred.
“He stopped to render assistance but attending police did not ascertain his details.”
Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
