Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has received a negative Covid result after going into isolation following his attendance a party with a person who later tested positive for the virus.
Mr Andrews attended a 50th birthday party for a friend on Saturday night at a venue on Melbourne’s Elwood foreshore. It was his first day of Christmas leave.
On Wednesday dozens of guests that attended the party at the Elwood Bathers, including the Premier, were told by health officials to isolate and get tested.
The party was for Mr Andrews’ long-time friend Fiona Waller, who is married to iSelect founder Damien Waller.
The Premier is reported to have received a test on Thursday, immediately after he received a text message that people at the party had tested positive to the virus.
On Friday morning Mr Andrews’ PCR test returned a negative result.
Mr Andrews is expected to spend the next four weeks of his annual leave on the Mornington Peninsula.
Victoria reported 1622 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, taking the total number of active cases to 12,252 amid an upswing in infections.
The state also reported nine Covid-related deaths of people aged their between their 60s to 90s.
