‘North Shore Rapist’ Graham James Kay stalks woman at Westfield before sexually touching her

A serial rapist who attacked women on Sydney’s north shore was at a busy Sydney Westfield when he was unable to control his sick urges.

Victims speak after NSW serial rapist freed

A serial rapist who terrorised women on Sydney’s north shore has struck again – stalking a young victim he spotted at a busy Westfield shopping centre for two hours before following her home and grabbing her as she screamed.

Graham James Kay – who was dubbed the North Shore Rapist for his horrific sex attacks against women in the 1990s – has repeated his horrifying pattern of behaviour.

And even though the 70-year-old has been forced to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and follow a suite of strict rules since completing parole following 18 years in jail, police have warned he shows “scant regard” for the law and poses an “unacceptable risk” to females.

The serial rapist’s latest example of being unable to control his disturbing sexual urges and fantasies can be told in full after Kay was sentenced to a maximum of two years jail, with 12 months non-parole, in Central Local Court for the charges of stalking and sexually touching.

But he’s eligible for release in January with time already served.

Kay’s most recent offence began when he started to follow a 20-year-old woman through the underground level of the Queen Victoria Building towards the Sydney Westfield shopping complex on January 2 this year.

While she tried on clothes in David Jones in various change rooms, he “loitered” nearby for 42 minutes.

Unaware she was being watched, the victim then walked onto Castlereagh St at 3.54pm – and Kay kept his eyes on her from the other side of the road.

While she then lined up at the Dior store, he continued to keep a distance, standing outside nearby.

For a period he also chose to line up at the luxury designer shop – where handbags sell for up to $9700.

When the victim left Dior at 4.20pm, she went back into Westfield and into make-up franchise Mecca.

Kay followed her into the beauty store for three minutes before deciding to instead stand outside the entrance.

His victim then walked past the Albion Hotel, Cheers Bar and 3 Wise Monkeys as the convicted rapist followed “close behind”.

When she went into ice-cream shop Messina, Kay stood outside.

At 5pm she walked to her home in Haymarket – and Kay became more brazen.

He “quickened” his pace so he could also enter the doors into the apartment building behind the young woman.

He then stepped into the elevator with her.

She pressed the button to her floor, unaware that a serial rapist was standing right beside her.

Kay pressed a floor too, but because he didn’t have a swipe card, the button did not light up.

When the elevator reached the woman’s floor, Kay then pushed his way to exit first.

Looking to his right and then left, he walked back into the elevator.

But as the young victim tried to leave, Kay was captured on CCTV moving his hand up under her dress with an “open cupped palm”

He held his hand in her vaginal area for about two seconds before the woman tried to bend away and screamed.

She pushed him out of the way and went into her apartment and washed her clothes due to fears her attacker had Covid.

Kay’s electronic monitoring bracelet matched the CCTV at the time and officers arrested him at his workplace five days later.

This latest event is an escalation of his previous breaches of his extended supervision order, which has been in place since 2017.
