Man found dead after fire rips through Altona unit in Melbourne’s west
The arson squad is investigating after a man was found dead in his fire-ravaged unit in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

A man has died after a fire ripped through his unit in Melbourne’s western suburbs during the early hours of Monday morning.
A crime scene has been set up, with the arson squad at the scene to determine if the blaze at the Romawi Street home in Altona about 3.30am was suspicious.
Fire Rescue Victoria crews forced entry into the unit and quickly discovered the single occupant before removing him from the burning home and starting CPR.
The man – yet to be formally identified – died at the scene.
Fire Rescue Victoria said the fire was declared under control at 3.43am.
The blaze was contained to the lounge and dining area of the unit.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
