Body found in Maribyrnong River in inner Melbourne

A body has been found in a Melbourne river this morning with witnesses reporting a heavy police presence in the area.

The body of a woman has been found in the Maribyrnong River in inner Melbourne.

Her body was discovered near Van Ness Ave, Maribyrnong on Monday morning.

A police spokeswoman said the woman was yet to be formally identified.

She said her death was not being treated as suspicious.

There was a heavy police presence, including Water Police, at the scene.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
