Ben Fordham takes aim to ScoMo’s failure to sell net zero vision

Scott Morrison is out on the hustings spruiking his climate credentials but a radio host says he’s failed to sell his vision to the voters.

Scott Morrison’s plan for a carbon neutral future has been lashed by radio host Ben Fordham as “pie in the sky stuff”.

The Prime Minister has been under pressure to release the modelling that shaped his government’s net zero commitment. Last month, he told parliament the report would be released following his trip to Glasgow for the Cop26 climate summit.

But when asked on Monday, he refused to give a timeline for its release: “Soon,” he said.

When NCA Newswire asked the Department of science, Industry, Energy and Resources, who were commissioned to undertake the modelling, they also could not give a time frame.

“The Prime Minister said … the modelling for the Long Term Emissions Reduction Plan will be published soon.”

The 2GB host on Tuesday took issue with the Prime Minister’s stonewalling tactics, telling his listeners Mr Morrison has thus far failed to sell his net zero vision.

“When it comes to climate policy in Australia, I think the Prime Minister has got some work to do,” Mr Fordham said.

“Scott Morrison is in some trouble. I think he‘s failed to sell his vision for net zero emissions by 2050 … there‘s no meat on the bone.”

“As of this morning, we still have no idea what it will cost.”

The radio host took issue with the fact the government has still not released its modelling.

Mr Fordham said it was “staggering” the Prime Minister had not released the modelling before he attended the Cop26 summit.

“It's staggering that the government travelled to Glasgow to commit to one of the biggest policies in history without revealing the detail. And it doesn’t take a lot of digging to find flaws,” he told listeners on Tuesday,

“We want to do everything we can to help the environment all Australians want to do that. And we‘ve got a wonderful track record of doing so.”

“But we’re not gullible, empty promises and wishful thinking will be met with an angry response on election day.”
