FRAN KELLY: GLOBAL WARMING DENIER

Yet again, Fran Kelly on the ABC's Radio National Breakfast talks up how Pacific Islands are threatened by global warming, interviewing a guest warning of cyclones and rising seas. Yet again Kelly ignores the science that says the region is getting fewer cyclones and the islands are three times more like to grow than sink. Who are the real deniers?

Yet again, Fran Kelly on the ABC's Radio National Breakfast talks up how Pacific Islands are threatened by global warming, interviewing a guest, John Thwaites, who warns of cyclones and rising seas.

From the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change:

In summary, confidence in large scale changes in the intensity of extreme extratropical cyclones since 1900 is low... Over periods of a century or more, evidence suggests slight decreases in the frequency of tropical cyclones making landfall in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific

As for rising seas drowning Pacific islands:

Professor Paul Kench and Dr Arthur Webb studied 27 atoll islands in the central Pacific over a period of up to 60 years. They said: "Results show that 86% of islands remained stable (43%) or increased in area (43%) over the timeframe of analysis."

How often Fran Kelly has been warned that she is peddling a fake scare. How often she ignores the science.

Who are the real "deniers" here?
