UPDATE: WENDY Harmer has issued a "grovelling apology" for ridiculing Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton in her comedy routines.
The comedian said she was now guilt-ridden and ashamed of her 1980s musical parody about Mrs Chamberlain-Creighton she called Everyone Knows It’s Lindy.
“In pursuit of a laugh, I too carried a burning stick. What was I thinking?” Harmer confessed in an article on her online women’s magazine The Hoopla.
Harmer made the public apology, following a Northern Territory Coroner’s verdict Azaria was killed by a dingo at Uluru on August 17, 1980, as one of hoards of Australians who viciously vilified the grieving mum.
Ms Chamberlain-Creighton today thanked Harmer for her apology.
"I think they have a huge amount of courage to admit that they were wrong," Mrs Chamberlain-Creighton told ABC's AM program.
"And there was a media personality yesterday, good on her, she's only the second one ever to do so in the media."
The other apology came from former Channel Ten news director Kevin Hitchcock.

Harmer said: “Lindy, Michael. I am truly sorry for the hurt I caused you, your family and friends. I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.
“I acknowledge that the horror for your family has been unending. You have always conducted yourselves with the utmost dignity and composure. The very qualities that saw you damned, accused and convicted.
“I sincerely hope that today’s verdict helps you find some peace, but I also understand that your journey with grief is something of which I have no comprehension."
She said it was important for younger Australians to know how poorly people behaved during the “witch hunt” against Mrs Chamberlain-Creighton.
