SEVEN WWI servicemen. who died in the Gallipoli campaign and are buried in the Balmoral Cemetery, have been remembered in a booklet to be released on Anzac Day.
Friends of Balmoral Cemetery researched each of the fallen soldiers, with their stories to be published in the 40-page booklet.
One of the stories is of Morningside soldier Harry James Tyrrell, who died at Gallipoli on May 8, 1915.
Treasurer Sue Speed said the group came across details about the seven servicemen while documenting the names of all 15,530 people who were buried at the cemetery.
“We started documenting the people that were buried at the cemetery 12 years ago,” she said.
The group began researching the seven soldiers’ history in 2010, Mrs Speed said.
A second book, telling the stories of 49 other serviceman killed in action during WWI and who are also buried at the cemetery, is due to be released by the end of the year.
The first booklet includes a guided walking tour around the seven soldiers’ graves.
Mrs Speed said the group was still actively searching for new information for the follow-up book.
