Yowie sighting  sparks warning of more encounters

A fresh sighting of the mythical yowie near the Gold Coast has prompted warnings that more sightings of the elusive cryptid could be coming.

This is what happened...

The sighting occurred about 4.10am on June 22 in Witheren, near Canungra, at the gateway to The Scenic Rim.

The mountainous region has long been heralded as ground zero for paranormal sightings on the Gold Coast, with UFOs, yowies and ghost encounters galore.

The witness, Shannon, had the surprise early morning encounter with the yowie in the middle of the road as he rounded a corner on his motorbike.

The creature was described as a juvenile, “around five years old and covered in black hair, with long arms and no neck”, and was squatting on the road.

Australian Yowie Research founder Dean Harrison said there was likely a much larger parent creature nearby the juvenile when the sighting took place.

They (yowies) travel in groups and wouldn’t be too far from a big, menacing parent. They can turn quite violent and aggressive if their young are threatened. I’ve seen it first-hand.

Mr Harrison said the encounter, which was the first significant sighting on the Gold Coast this year, was “an encouraging sign of things to come.”

In May 2021, Mr Harrison and other yowie researchers captured the most concrete evidence to date that Australia’s answer to Bigfoot actually exists.

The thermal footage showed what appeared to be two of the giant creatures in Springbrook National Park step out from behind a tree.

After the recent Witheren sighting, Mr Harrison said he was excited to investigate the area, which was also the site of a significant yowie encounter in 2018 that involved a truck driver.
