Unsolved bikie crimes that haunt police

Words: Jacob Miley  Producer: Simone Kealy

As police reveal the OMCG code of silence is “shifting” as loyalty wanes, there are renewed hopes some of the city's unsolved bikie crimes will be cracked. We revisit four cases yet to be closed.

Mystery still surrounds a triple stabbing outside a Burleigh Heads restaurant involving men with alleged ties to the Mongols bikie gang.

The incident was one of four acts of violence allegedly by bikies on the last weekend of November 2021. Police have since revealed the incidents were not related.

“No complaints have been made by three men who were attacked. No one has been charged as a result of the investigation,” police said.

Ms Greer was 32 when she headed west to Spicer’s Gap to visit her boyfriend in January, 2012. She was never seen again and her vehicle was found days later abandoned.

Les ‘Grumpy’ Sharman was identified as a person of interest in the suspected murder of the Gold Coast mother. But the Finks hard man died in a traffic crash in 2018.

Detective Inspector David Briese, of Ipswich District Crime Services, told the Bulletin  last year that police were still investigating and searching for Ms Greer.

Former MMA fighter Gokhan Turkyilmaz, 33, was shot up to eight times and bashed with a baseball bat by a group of balaclava-clad men who stormed his home in 2019.

Upper Coomera ‘bikie’ shooting

After the attack, the then Rebel’s bikie posted a photo of himself drinking a beer on social media, taunting his attackers: “I’ve had harder sparring sessions”.

Five months after the shooting, no charges have been laid. Sources say a bikie code of silence is holding back further investigation.
