Airbnb crackdown to solve Coast's housing crisis

A vacancy tax has been suggested as a solution to the Gold Coast's accommodation crisis.The city's median house price is now on par with Melbourne, and the construction of new housing isn't keeping up with population growth.Mayor Tom Tate proposed taxing Airbnb owners, and imposing levies on investors who leave homes empty.Recent data shows that Gold Coast renters experienced the highest rent increases in the state, with Surfers Paradise and Paradise Point being the most affected areas.
