Mushroom meal survivor Ian Wilkinson delivers tribute to wife Heather, sharing a story of their holiday in Ireland

Ian Wilkinson has shared stories of his wife Heather and made multiple mentions of Gail Patterson and Don Patterson at a sermon at the Korumburra Baptist Church.

Mushroom meal survivor Ian Wilkinson has shared fond memories of his late wife while delivering his second sermon at the Korumburra Baptist Church in the wake of Erin Patterson’s triple murder conviction.

There were efforts throughout the service to ensure the victims of the deadly lunch were not forgotten, with numerous mentions of Mr Wilkinson’s wife Heather, his sister-in-law Gail Patterson and her husband Don Patterson.

As locals filtered into the pews ready for the 10.30am start, chatter filled the room as friends caught up – and Mr Wilkinson sat in the front row.

The small church had about 30 parishioners attend the service, which began with a rendition of Amazing Grace.

The congregation were led in a prayer which in part asked for God’s continued protection and support for Erin’s husband Simon Patterson.

Mr Wilkinson took to the lectern flanked by flowers and with colourful bunting which read: “Faith, hope and love”.

He spoke with humour, a smile and in-depth knowledge and mentioned his late wife in his sermon, recalling a trip they made together to Ireland about a decade ago.

The pair were on a bus tour in Dublin and instead of attending the Guinness factory, the two went to the Chester Beatty Library, to view one of the oldest Galatians artefacts – much to Heather’s dismay.

The congregation laughed along with Mr Wilkinson.

His focus was on Paul’s letter to the Galatians and he spoke about the grace of God, the Holy Trinity and Jesus’s resurrection.

Mr Wilkinson declined to comment on the mushroom murder case in which three of his loved ones died after eating a beef wellington meal prepared by Erin Patterson.
