A GOLD Coast drug dealer who had a 17-year-old customer pull a knife on him during a $400 cannabis sale was arrested after a passer-by called police.
Liam William Taylor has also been left with mental health issues following the drug deal gone bad.
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to supplying drugs to a minor and possession of dangerous drugs.
Judge Katherine McGinness yesterday sentenced him to 15 months probation.
The court was told the 17-year-old contacted Taylor via Facebook to ask for $400 worth - or 27g - of cannabis.
Taylor agreed and arranged to meet the teenager for the sale.
Crown prosecutor Gary Churhcill said when the drugs were handed over the teenager stuffed them down his pants.
“He then pulled out a large knife,” he said.
Mr Churchill said a passer-by saw the pair struggling and called police.
The teen threw the drugs into the bushes but officers soon found the drugs.
Taylor was also found with 6g of cannabis in a small clipseal bag.
Defence barrister Marcin Lazinski, instructed by Oden Legal, said the attempted drug deal had a lasting effect on Taylor.
“The offence itself was quite scary for Taylor,” he said.
“The incident was quite serious and scary and had a lasting impact on my client.”
Mr Lazinski said Taylor had started using cannabis in Year 11 because he “thought it was cool” and to treat anxiety.
He said Taylor was attempting to kick his cannabis addiction and was trying to get work in the mines in Tasmania.
No conviction was recorded.
