How police breakthrough in alleged double murder unfolded

SPECIALIST police swooped on two senior members of the Lone Wolf bikie gang as they crossed the border into Queensland, in a major breakthrough in a double murder investigation.

The motive behind the alleged murder of former Comanchero bikie Shane Ross and his Monstr clothing business partner Cameron Martin, is still unclear, with the bikie cone of silence hampering the case up until today.

Police continue to investigate possible motives for the alleged double murder.

Yesterday the major breakthrough came after a major operation under the guise of Romeo Masking culminated with police watching their suspects for two days, leading to the arrest of two men aged 42 and 34, both from Coolangatta.

The men are alleged to be office bearers in the Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang.

They have both been charged with two counts of murder with a ‘serious organised crime’ circumstance of aggravation and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for a third man, a 31-year-old, currently in custody in New South Wales for two counts of murder with a ‘serious organised crime’ circumstance of aggravation and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Detective Superintendent Brendan Smith said the successful arrest was undertaken by highly trained officers.

“We’ve had specialist police involved in the final part of the investigation … we’ve been monitoring them for a number of days,” Supt Smith said.

“There was no-one hurt or injured and we used our specialist police in this case so there were no issues.”

He said the police will allege the murders were premeditated.

“It will be alleged the murders were premeditated involving significant planning by the alleged offenders who are senior members of the Lone Wolf OMCG.

“These were vicious and premeditated crimes we will allege were carried out by an organised crime gang.”

He said following their plea for information to help track down a white SUV last Monday, the investigation picked up speed.

“Information has come forward from the community, but also some great work by the investigative team.

“It was a really complex investigation, when you think about when it first occurred to now.

“The work completed by the investigative team demonstrates the Queensland Police Service’s commitment to solving complex crimes stretching over multiple jurisdictions.

“Public information has been critical to solving the matter and bringing closure to the victims’ families.

“To this end, we continue to call for public information to ensure all persons connected to these crimes face the consequences of their actions.

“The investigation is still ongoing and there are potentially further arrests, anyone who may have assisted the offenders, before and after the crime, they need to consider their position.”

Queensland Police have released further vision as part of their on-going investigation into the alleged murders of 36-year-old Shane Ross and 47-year-old Cameron Martin.Officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen a white BMW X5 SUV travelling between NSW and the Gold Coast on October 18 last year to contact them.

It’s understood police believe they have the three people who committed the alleged double murder, but believe they may have had assistance either side of the death of Mr Ross and Mr Martin.

Police are still trying to find the white BMW SUV and the murder weapon allegedly used in the deaths.

“We’re still looking for the car and we haven’t got any weapons at this point, but we obviously know that firearms are involved.”
