The mother of murder victim Tara Brown has demanded harsher laws to combat domestic violence offenders after revealing how the death of Hannah Clarke affected her.

Violence against women: Australia is facing an epidemic worse than terrorism

THE mother of murdered woman Tara Brown has spoken publicly about how the death of Hannah Clarke “brought it all back” years after her daughter’s brutal killing.

Natalie Hinton’s daughter Tara was just 24 when she was run off the road and beaten to death by her estranged partner, who was the father of her child, in a Molendinar street in 2015.

Today Ms Hinton spoke out about the death of Camp Hill mum Hannah Clarke, who died along with her three children and former partner after he set all five alight inside their car.

“It brought it all back. It was very similar to Tara’s case,” she said.

“Because it was once again a most public display of domestic violence murder.

“Don’t get me wrong, every domestic violence murder brings it flooding back for me, but because Hannah’s was so similar in circumstances it was a big hit last week.

“We need a new law that will stop these men.”

OPINION: HOW WE CAN TACKLE NIGHTMARE DV EPIDEMIC

Her comments came as the Tara Brown Foundation announced its backing for new LNP measures that would see $2.5 million go to domestic violence support.

The new measures are aimed at increasing the maximum penalty for strangulation laws to 14 years jail, overhauling the existing domestic violence legal system and offering extra funding to frontline domestic violence services.

LNP health spokesperson Ros Bates said it was an issue she was passionate about.

“As a survivor of domestic violence myself, I am sick to death of seeing people murdered here in Queensland,” she said.

“I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again, we need to get tough and we need to lock these bastards away so that they will never hurt another woman or a child.”
