Luxury car stolen - Gated complex break-in

Police are investigating after youths stole a luxury car from a gated complex in the early hours of Friday morning.

It is alleged two teenage boys jumped a fence at Edgewater on Varsity in Varsity Lakes at 2.52am on Friday morning and stole a black BMW.

“Police are investigating a burglary at a Varsity Parade residence between 9pm and 4am last night,” a Queensland Police Service spokeperson said.

“Unknown offenders have gained entry and stolen a number of personal items, including a black BMW.

“Investigations are ongoing. There is no further information at this time.”

Edgewater on Varsity management released a statement to residents on Friday morning, informing them that a break-in had occurred.

“We have been able to find CCTV footage of the theft. The two teenage boys jumped

over the eastern fence and went through townhouse courtyards looking for unlocked

doors,” the statement read.

“Unfortunately they found an unlocked glass sliding door, entered into the

townhouse, stole car keys, and then stole the car belonging to the resident.

“Police have been informed and the forensics team is arriving this morning.

“Please remember to lock your doors, and do not store valuables in your vehicle or that

they are out of view.

“In addition, if you have a valuable bicycle, scooter or motorbike stored in a townhouse courtyard or car park area, we suggest you increase security by using a thicker lock.

“Cable cutters were used in two of the thefts, and so a simple bicycle lock is not sufficient.”
