A suspected Lone Wolf bikie who police are searching for in relation to a road rage shooting is facing unrelated organised crime and drugs charges.
Saleh Atasoy has a warrant out for his arrest after he allegedly fired a shot from a handgun into a Ford Ranger at Broadbeach Waters on Friday. It followed an alleged dispute with another driver.
The 37-year-old was required to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning for separate matters. He’s accused of possessing and trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing explosives, forging documents, and faces a serious organised crime offence of dishonestly obtaining benefit. The matter is due to go to trial in January. Saleh didn’t show up for the hearing but was represented by his lawyer Nicholas Andrews, who told the Bulletin he hadn’t heard from his client in “a few” weeks.
“He is on Supreme Court bail. I am hoping to hear from him very soon,” Mr Andrews said.
As part of his bail conditions Atasoy is required to wear a GPS ankle monitor. Addressing the media on Monday, Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Garrett, of Gold Coast CIB, said the tracker had been disabled.
“He was under direction by the courts to wear that (tracker). There’s a number of matters before the courts,” he said.
Det Sen-Sgt said Atasoy’s alleged membership with the Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang meant he may have “resources” to help him avoid police.
“If anyone does knows the whereabouts of Mr Atasoy, we’re asking them not to approach him. He is armed and may be dangerous,” Det Sen-Sgt said.
“He’s well known to police and we’d like to locate and apprehend him as soon as possible.”
The state’s elite bikie unit Taskforce Maxima have joined the manhunt. Heavily armed officer have raided Atasoy’s home in Oxenford on the Northern Gold Coast. Police have also been speaking with his family and friends.
Atasoy is described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, about 173cm tall, weighing 85 kgs and with black hair and eyes.
