Stolen ute ram raid on Upper Coomera tobacconist

Police have launched a manhunt after a ram raid on an Upper Coomera tobacconist in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Thieves used a white ute to demolished the entrance to the shop on Reserve Road at 4am before chaining an ATM to the vehicle and driving away.

Witnesses last reported seeing the ute driving west on Oxenford Tamborine Road.

It was found an hour later on fire on Cedar Creek’s Jourdana Drive.

A neighbour said he woke up to the sound of the Tobacco shop getting smashed in at around 4am this morning before calling the police.

The neighbour, who chose to stay anonymous for safety concerns, said he watched as the thieves dragged the ATM out of the store.

“I woke up to a loud noise at 4am and just looked outside to see a group of people smashing their way in the tobacco shop,” he said.

“That's the third time they’ve been broken into.

“They broke in and dragged the ATM outside, tied it to the ute and drove off.”

Investigations are ongoing.
