A young father who threatened to hunt down the family of his arresting officers and have sex with them has faced court after police found a weapon attached to his keys.

Tex George Church pleaded guilty in Southport Court on Monday to public nuisance and possession of knife in public after an incident in Surfers Paradise on December 4.

Police prosecutor Erin Garland said officers attended Surfers Paradise Blvd after receiving a tip that a “group of males” were involved in “drug behaviour”.

Police located Church’s group and they were detained for a search.

“The defendant began verbally abusing the two officers, heard stating ‘I’m going to find your wife and I’m going to f**k her’ and ‘I’m going to find your daughter and I’m going to f**k her’,” Ms Garland told the court.

“Further police were called to assist due to the threatening behaviour.”

Officers found a folding knife attached to the 25-year-old’s keychain, which held a 6.5cm blade.

The defendant said the weapon was for “hunting and fishing” but police claim he hadn’t been “travelling to or from such activities”.

“He was socialising at a licenced venue and was not in the company of any other hunting or fishing gear,” Ms Garland stated.

The prosecution said two officers were “emotionally affected” by Church’s threats, having treated them as sincere given the “serious and threatening manner” of his words.

Duty lawyer, Vered Turner of Vered Turner Lawyers, said Church doesn’t remember making such threats but is “extremely embarrassed” and “remorseful” for the behaviour.

“He wants to express that remorse to the police officers as well,” Ms Turner said.

“He wanted to know if there were going to be people in the court, (as) he’s very embarrassed about what he said.”

The court heard Church sees a psychologist once a month for depression and anxiety, with the defence asking that these visits and his “very limited” criminal history be taken into account in determining a sentence.

Acting Magistrate Ron Kilner told Church “this sort of language is totally unacceptable”.

“The job of a police officer is hard enough without it being made more difficult by the behaviour you exhibited, drunk or sober,” he warned.

Church was fined $600 and no conviction was recorded.
