POLICE have charged two teenage boys with the theft of a luxury $300,000 Mercedes Benz four-wheel drive from a Gold Coast home after the vehicle was tracked by a POLAIR chopper.
The Mercedes Benz G-Class – or G Wagon – was stolen from a Benowa home about 4.20pm on Thursday afternoon, according to a Gold Coast police spokeswoman.
“It was sighted numerous times driving around the Gold Coast,” she said.
“It appears the vehicle left the Gold Coast and went to Brisbane and on its return to the Gold Coast later that evening POLAIR picked it up from the air and tracked it.”
Police say the G Wagon was brought to a halt after the vehicle ran over a tyre deflation device deployed by officers on Helensvale Rd at Helensvale about 7.40pm on Thursday.
“Two offenders were located in a nearby unit at Doyalson Place at Helensvale a short time later,” the spokeswoman alleged.
Police have charged a 15-year-old boy with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, while a 16-year-old boy has been charged with burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The pair will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
