A BOY who slashed a teenager in a Gold Coast park fight has been arrested trying to break into cars.

The 15-year-old was taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Currumbin Waters boy was attempting to break into vehicles at Burleigh Heads with another youth when he was arrested, police say.

He is accused of slashing a 17-year-old boy’s forearm with an unidentified weapon following a verbal argument at Pirate Park, Palm Beach on October 23.

Police say the 17-year-old was socialising with friends when they got into a row with a group of male and female strangers.

A broken alcohol bottle was found at the scene. Police previously said it could have caused the injuries.

Police are yet to identify the weapon involved but witnesses say the boy charged was seen with a box-cutter knife.

A second 15-year-old boy – who police allege was a party to the offence – was charged by detectives from the Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit last week and will face Southport Children’s Court.

The mother of the 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has previously revealed her son’s tendons, nerves and arteries in his forearm were severed during the sickening attack.

He was treated in Gold Coast University Hospital.

Writing on social media last month, the mother said her son was “so lucky to be here”.

“He had his tendons, nerves and artery in his wrist severed, a gash taken out of his forearm and a broken nose by this group of boys with a bottle,” she wrote.

“He has a long recovery ahead of him, both physically and mentally. I never want a mother to go through what I’ve just been through.

“He wasn’t at a party or anything like that, just sitting at a table with a friend. Wrong place, wrong time.

“Apparently, there are videos going around which makes me sick to my stomach to know they were filming and not helping him.”

The Queensland Police Service campaign “I live my life … without a knife” was officially launched on the Gold Coast last week in a bid to reduce knife violence.

The Glitter Strip has recorded a spate of stabbing deaths over the past two years, leading to a 12-month “wanding trial” in safe-night precincts.

Of the 1500 people who had been scanned by officers on the beat, 600 were juveniles, police said.

Investigations are ongoing.
