A Gold Coast man was sentenced for four drug-related offences in the Southport Magistrates Court.
It follows a mum who has never help a licence being caught driving twice on the Gold Coast.
Natalia Aimee Rangimaria King
A Gold Coast mum was caught behind the wheel twice by police, despite never owning a driver’s licence.
Natalia Aimee Rangimaria King was stopped on Foxwell Road, Coomera on February 5.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Wednesday that the stay-at-home mum was caught driving again a month later on Sudbury Drive, Pimpama.
Magistrate Mark Howden fined King $500 and suspended her from obtaining a driver’s licence for three months.
Jacob Emil Victor Olson
An air-conditioning technician with drugs on him led police on a wild foot chase, a court has heard.
On February 20, Jacob Emil Victor Olson was seen on CCTV in a physical altercation in Surfers Paradise.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Wednesday that a police officer tracked down Olson and told him he was under arrest.
The 22-year-old took off.
CCTV operators were able to help police find Olson.
While being arrested officers found a small bag of cocaine. It was less than 0.5g and for personal use, the court was told.
Magistrate Mark Howden fined Olson $800.
No conviction was recorded.
Kenneth Michael Aueb
A scaffolder who police described to have “blood shot and glassy” eyes claimed the utensils found in his car didn’t belong to him.
Kenneth Michael Aueb was pulled over by police on February 7 in Coomera.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard officers became suspicious after Aueb’s eyes appeared to be “blood shot and glassy”.
Aueb said his mate’s girlfriend had been using the vehicle for a few weeks.
Police found a large hunting knife, syringe, digital scales and crystal residue during a search.
Aueb told the court he should be “more aware” of what is in his vehicle.
Magistrate Mark Howden fined Aueb $400.
No conviction was recorded.
Mandi Valda Watts
A Gold Coast woman was caught with dangerous drugs on Australia Day.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Wednesday that Mandi Valda Watts was approached by police in a car park.
Officers searched a bag from a car that belonged to the 21-year-old and found a glass pipe, scales and 0.019g of methamphetamines.
Magistrate Mark Howden put Watts on nine months’ probation.
No conviction was recorded.
Graham John Baddock
A sheep shearer will spend half a year off the road after being caught three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
Graham John Baddock was pulled over on March 11 in Upper Coomera for a random breath test.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Wednesday that Baddock recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.151.
Magistrate Mark Howden fined Baddock $500 and suspended him from driving for six months.
No conviction was recorded.
A-Jay Rangitaawa
A removalist was unaware he was breaking the law when he was pulled over by police, a court has heard.
A-Jay Rangitaawa was caught driving with a suspended driver’s licence on February 10 in Surfers Paradise.
Rangitaawa had been suspended from driving from January 20, 2021 to April 19, 2022.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Wednesday that he was unaware his demerit points had run out.
Magistrate Mark Howden fined Rangitaawa $300 and suspended him from holding a driver’s licence for six months.
No conviction was recorded.
Trent James Jordan
A finance broker driving 30km/h under the speed limit while swerving side-to-side was found to be three times the legal blood-alcohol limit.
Trent James Jordan was caught on March 4 drink-driving in Pacific Pines.
The 28-year-old recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.174.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Tuesday that Jordan was pulled over after swerving between lanes and going 40km/h in a 70km/h zone.
The father was celebrating a work milestone with his employer before getting in the car, the court was told.
He was fined Jordan $1000 and suspended him from driving for seven months.
No conviction was recorded.
Hayden Potts
A Gold Coast man who had returned from mining in Western Australia was caught driving without a licence that he did not know he’d lost.
Hayden Potts was pulled over by police on February 13 in Helensvale. It was discovered his licence had been suspended on December 26, 2021.
Potts was roadside tested and recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.021.
A person driving without a licence can not have any alcohol in their system.
The Southport Magistrate Court heard on Tuesday that Potts didn’t know his licence was suspended.
Potts’ licence was suspended due to unpaid fines from previous Transport Department offences, including travelling without paying fares.
He was fined Potts $600 and suspended him from holding a driver’s licence for four months.
Emma Maree Coghlan
A Gold Coast mother who hadn’t held a licence for almost a year was caught driving an unregistered car.
Emma Maree Coghlan was pulled over by police at 6.10pm on January 20 in Clear Island Waters.
The Southport Magistrate Court was told on Monday that Anderson’s learner licence had expired 350 days earlier.
The registration of the car the 39-year-old was driving expired 83 days before the incident.
Magistrate Louisa Pink fined Coghlan $650.
Leighton James Taylor
A man was caught with an illegal weapon and a police officer’s hat during a raid.
Police conducted a search warrant on Leighton James Taylor’s Coomera property at 12.45pm on February 12.
The 24-year-old told police he had a taser in a top draw in his bedroom.
Taylor said he bought the taser in Bali, knowing it was illegal.
Police also found a Queensland Police Service hat hanging in the house.
The Southport Magistrate Court was told on Monday that Taylor found the hat two years earlier on the side of the road.
Magistrate Louisa Pink gave Taylor a four-month good behaviour bond of $600.
No conviction was recorded.
Kieran Michael Kelly
A man has been fined $600 after police found dangerous drugs in his bag during a wanding test, a court has heard.
Police spoke to Kieran Michael Kelly on March 6 in Surfers Paradise and conducted a wanding of his bag.
The detector found a metal item. Police asked Kelly if he wanted to hand over anything, the
Southport Magistrate Court was told on Monday.
The 35-year-old was found to have numerous drugs, including methamphetamines and acid, along with two glass pipes, used needles and a small set of scales.
Magistrate Louisa Pink fined Kelly $600.
No conviction was recorded.
