Police believe they have identified a suspected wanted over a home invasion at Ormeau in which one offender armed himself with a meat cleaver.
A man and an accomplice broke into a home on Cedarton Crescent in the early hours of Monday morning and spent nearly 20 minutes rummaging through the property while the occupants were in bed.
Confronting CCTV captured on nearby Doolan St shows a man as he creeps up a driveway to a home brandishing what appears to be the large meat cleaver.
Police sources within the Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have told the Bulletin they are searching for a person of interest who is believed to be the armed offender pictured in the footage.
The male suspect is about 20-years-old and well known to police. He is also wanted on a return to prison warrant for previous offending, the sources say.
Officers have attended his registered address in Logan but have been unable to locate him so far.
The man and his accomplices are believed to be behind a number of other break-ins and car thefts across Logan and the Gold Coast.
Detectives believe the offenders are still travelling in a Black Holden Commodore which was stolen during a home invasion at Marsden in November.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said investigations are continuing and no further information was available.
