Police have swarmed a Hope Island street after an allegedly stolen car was found with suspected drugs and stolen property inside.
Officers descended on Waters Close at about 6pm on Monday where a man and women had been seen acting suspiciously inside the 2023 Grey Kia Sportage, a QPS spokesman told the Bulletin.
Half-an-hour before they arrived, the pair abandoned the car and were last seen walking toward a nearby canal.
A number of undercover patrol cars began searching nearby streets but were unable to locate the man and women.
The Kia SUV was rented from a hire car business near Brisbane and was reported stolen on March 14 when it wasn’t returned.
Police searched the vehicle and found a number of items including property suspected of having been stolen.
What appeared to be a used drug utensil was left in the centre console of the car alongside a small clip-seal bag containing a white residue.
The vehicle was seized by police and towed from the scene.
A QPS spokesman said officers believed they knew the identity of the man and women spotted in the car prior to it being abandoned and investigations are ongoing.
