The defence team for murder-accused former councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden say an ‘administrative error’ is behind the latest delays plaguing their case.

The case of murder-accused former councillor Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden has been held up by an “administrative error”, a court has been told.

Mr Bayldon-Lumsden is accused of killing his stepfather Robert Lumsden, 58, during an altercation at their Arundel home on August 23 last year.

His legal team has entered a not guilty plea to the murder charge.

Solicitor Ron Behlau, of Behlau Murakami Grant, told Southport Magistrates Court this week that much of the material that was outstanding at the last mention in January had not yet been disclosed to them.

Mr Behlau said an administrative error meant a “significant” amount of the missing material had inadvertently remained at the police prosecutions office.

The court was told the material would be picked up later that day and assessed to determine whether anything was still outstanding.

Mr Bayldon-Lumsden’s case was adjourned to May 3. He remains on bail and will not be required to appear at the next mention.

The former Division 7 councillor was suspended with full pay after the charge was laid last year, and was unsuccessful in his bid for re-election last month.
