Currumbin Waters teen charged with wounding, two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm after video hits social media

Police have charged a teenage boy after he allegedly refused to leave a party and sliced a man with a knife.

The charges against the 17-year-old Currumbin Waters boy came after contradicting claims emerged around a violent 11-second video, understood to be related to the incident at Elanora on Friday, May 8, was posted to social media.

The footage appears to show three people wrestling on the ground and punches being thrown while a woman tries to separate the trio.

The post associated with the video on Reddit: “Adults from Elanora bash teenager. There’s not a youth crime problem, there’s a problem with thugs/junkies having children.”

But no adults have been charged at this stage, a Gold Coast police spokeswoman confirmed.

Officers have charged the teen with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of wounding.

“Around 10:45pm, a verbal argument broke out between a 48-year-old Elanora man and three teenagers, after he instructed them to leave his home,” the spokeswoman said.

Police have now charged a Currumbin Waters teenager.

The video was uploaded to Reddit on Sunday night.

“It will be alleged that the teenagers refused to leave, before one of them presented a knife and made threats to the man.

“It will be alleged that a physical struggle ensued between the man and two of the boys, during which, the man sustained a laceration to his left hand.”

The Elanora man’s wife, 50, was also injured in the struggle, suffering grazes and bruising to her hand, according to police.

The teen has been bailed to face Southport Children’s Court at a later date.
