Forensic crash investigations have been underway after a police car with its lights and siren on rolled at a Gold Coast intersection while officers were rushing to an emergency.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services rescuers used hydraulic gear to cut injured officers free from the marked Isuzu D-Max, which collided with a Nissan Navara at the intersection of Bermuda and Markeri streets at Mermaid Waters about 9.30am on Monday.
In a statement, Queensland Police Service said officers from Robina Station had been responding to an incident on Hospital Boulevard at Southport when the crash occurred.
“Three male police officers aged 32, 35, and 36-years-old were treated at the scene before being transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition,” the statement read.
“The 41-year-old driver and sole occupant of the Nissan was also treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
“The injuries are not considered serious.”
Police confirmed the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating.
‘Absolute chaos’: Cops trapped after intersection rollover
July 11: Rescuers used hydraulic gear to cut injured police officers free of their car after it rolled on its side during a dramatic crash on the Gold Coast on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Bermuda and Markeri St at Mermaid Waters after the cop car was involved in a crash with a Nissan Navara about 9.30am, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed.
Officers were trapped in the car for about half an hour.
They were freed from the crumpled vehicle by about 10am, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) spokesman said.
Rescuers cut the roof of the vehicle to free the first responders.
Two more people were able to free themselves from another vehicle involved in the crash and did not appear seriously injured.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated four people in total, including the three police officers, and all were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Two men in their 30s suffered back injuries, a man in his 30s suffered back and leg injuries and a man in his 40s suffered a shoulder injury, a spokeswoman said.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said on Monday afternoon that police from the Robina station were responding to a “priority” incident on Hospital Blvd, Southport.
Delays were expected in the area and motorists were urged to seek alternative routes.
A witness who did not want to be named described the scene as “absolute chaos”.
QFES described the crash as involving three vehicles, while police and ambulance service spokespeople said only two vehicles were involved.
