‘Tyre mark down woman’s back’: Hit-and-run witness - September 8

Police are on the hunt for the driver of a white Audi after a hit-and-run on the Gold Coast left a woman fighting “for dear life” on the side of the road.

A woman left lying on the road with a “tyre mark down her back” was clinging to her handbag “for dear life”, says a witness to the traumatic hit-and-run scene aftermath.

Natasha Hodges, Of Southport, was driving home from art school, when she saw the woman lying in a critical condition on the road near a roundabout at the corner of Marine Parade and Short Street in Southport at about 10.45 last night.

“I was driving past. I just pulled over and called an ambulance straight away,” Ms Hodges, 25, said.

“There was a guy there – but he bailed as soon as I called the ambulance, he ran off.

“She was saying she got hit by a car – and he said it was a hit-and-run.

“He was so quick to bail as soon as I called the ambulance. He just bolted.

“You could see the tyre mark down her back.

“She could still talk, she was talking the whole time. She couldn’t say too much. She was in a lot of pain. She was clinging to her bag for dear life. These guys (paramedics) rocked up pretty quickly thankfully.

“I was driving home to go to bed but I wasn’t just going to leave her on the side of the road. I saw the blood. It’s not something you want to see.”

The woman’s shoe had come off her foot and was about 20 metres away from where she ended up lying on the road.

She was taken to Gold Coast University hospital shortly after multiple paramedics assessed her injuries and lifted her onto a stretcher.

Gold Coast Police are investigating the incident and are seeking public assistance to identify the driver of an Audi sedan who ran into the woman.

The Audi was described as a late model white sedan with a black roof and was last seen heading north on Marine Parade.
