Two Gold Coast men facing grooming charges after being arrested in an undercover police sting have been identified.

Arundel man Michael Kitchen, 50, and Southport’s John-Jon Pok, 25, had their cases mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court for the first time on Tuesday.

Both are charged with grooming a parent or carer of a child under 16 years to facilitate the procurement of the child to engage in a sexual act.

Police allege the men engaged with online profiles – manned by undercover Taskforce Argos detectives – arranging to meet and access who they believed was a “child” for sex.

Mr Kitchen, Mr Pok, and a 73-year-old Currumbin Waters man also charged in the operation were allegedly caught by detectives at the arranged meeting points on November 20 and 21.

Bodyworn camera footage of their arrests shows one of the men was allegedly found with a packet of ‘Lifestyles’ condoms in his pocket.

Mr Pok appeared beside his lawyer at his first mention, where it was heard the student had restrictions on his internet access as a condition of his bail.

The court was told Mr Pok was a Papua New Guinean citizen and would surrender his passport to the courthouse registry that day.

Both his and Mr Kitchen’s cases were adjourned to December 21.

The third man – who has not yet been identified – will next face court on December 19.

All three men remain on bail.
