A man in his 20s was taken down in a dramatic arrest after he allegedly assaulted and threatened multiple people in a Gold Coast park on Wednesday.
The man, 24, was charged with affray and obstructing a police officer after the melee, which took place at Tallebudgera Creek on January 15 at about 4pm, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.
“Around 4pm, police were called to Tallebudgera Creek Beach on the Gold Coast Highway following multiple reports that there was an altercation occurring between a large group of males,” the spokesman said.
“During the altercation, it is alleged that various people were physically assaulted, and one person was struck with a tree branch, and another was threatened with a broken glass bottle.
“Upon arrival, it is alleged that the male offender armed with the broken bottle was seen leaving the scene on foot.
“Following a short foot pursuit, the male was taken into custody after being tasered due to an immediate risk of serious injury to the public and the officer.
“The 24-year-old Ormiston man has been charged with affray and obstructing a police officer.”
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said two men with facial injuries were assessed at the scene.
The man is set to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on February 5.
