A driver of an alleged stolen car has been taken down in bushland on the Gold Coast after learning a hard lesson - not to run from a police dog.
It’s alleged a man broke into a business on Hilldon Court, Nerang about 4.50pm on Australia Day where he stole a 2016 Toyota Hilux.
“Emergency services were alerted, and the vehicle was able to be located and tracked by PolAir on Kopps Road at Oxenford a short time later,” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said.
“Officers continued to track the vehicle for some time.”
For about two hours police followed the vehicle across the Gold Coast before it pulled into an industrial complex on Siganto Drive, Helensvale and the driver allegedly ran from the car.
It’s understood the man fled into bushland and swam across Saltwater Creek where he was arrested about 20 minutes later.
The QPS spokesman said the driver was found on Gwydir Court by officers and allegedly assaulted a police dog before he was taken into custody.
A 30-year-old Coomera man has been charged with two counts of trespass, and one count of enter premises and commit, unlawful use of motor vehicles, serious assault police and stealing.
He’ll face Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, January 27.
