A man who was arrested in the nude after an allegedly violent and destructive rampage at a Gold Coast unit block has been barred from returning unless accompanied by police.
Police allege Tristan Mailman was the man filmed smashing glass and throwing objects to the ground below during an expletive-laden outburst at a unit complex on Errol Ave, Paradise Point on Friday night.
In footage captured by a resident of the suburb, the tirade of abuse continues for more than 10 minutes before police arrive.
“It’s the police, come out mate. It’s the police - you need to come out now,” a female officer can be heard saying.
After attempting for several minutes to coax the man out of the property, officers manage to shove the front door open and walk inside.
“Police! You’re under arrest for wilful damage. Get up now!... get up!” a male officer can be heard shouting.
“Stop resisting - you’re under arrest! Roll over now!”
While police officers are inside the unit, what is believed to be the Polair police helicopter can be heard hovering overhead.
Minutes later police emerge through the doorway with a seemingly naked Mr Mailman restrained in handcuffs. He was later charged with wilful damage.
The 43-year-old was held in custody before appearing in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday to apply for bail.
The court was told a report identified Mr Mailman as having “serious issues” with substance abuse after he turned to methylamphetamines as a coping mechanism while dealing with family stresses several years ago.
He had developed psychosis-like symptoms amid a “downward spiral” - potentially fuelling recent alleged offending - and accepted he needed assistance, it was heard.
The Paradise Point man was granted bail on several conditions, including that he not return to the Errol Ave property unless escorted by police to collect his belongings.
Mr Mailman’s case is next listed for mention on December 17.
The alleged incident is the latest in an ongoing saga of anti-social behaviour at the social housing complex.
According to Queensland Police Service (QPS) crime data, there have been more than 22 offences recorded at the address within the past six months including multiple reports of assaults, dangerous drugs and property damage.
