A man has been charged following an alleged armed carjacking attempt in broad daylight on the Gold Coast.

Police allege a 28-year-old man was sitting in his car outside a business on Bundall Rd at about 12.30pm on Tuesday when he was approached by two men.

It is alleged one was armed with a knife and the other with a sawn-off shotgun.

Police further allege the knife-wielding man stole the man’s car keys after an altercation, then took off in a white Holden Cruze that had been stolen from Merrimac earlier this week. His alleged accomplice fled on foot.

The driver allegedly sustained stab wounds to his hands and was transported to hospital.

It is alleged that about 15 minutes after the attempted carjacking, the same man was seen driving the Holden Cruze dangerously on nearby Showcase Court before crashing into another vehicle. No one was injured.

The man was arrested at the scene, with police still searching for the second man.

Scott James Tumbers, 41, has since been charged with wounding in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, armed robbery while in company, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Mr Tumbers was held in custody before briefly appearing in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

He did not apply for bail, with the court told an application to suspend his parole was now under way.

The Gilston man will be required to appear via videolink when his case is next mentioned on January 23.

Investigations are continuing, with police appealing to any potential witnesses or those with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
